Top 10 Spectrum 128 Games of All Time

Mensaje por cheveron » Vie Feb 07, 2014 10:47 am

As you can see from the title I'm trying to compile a list of the best games made for the Spectrum 128. This isn't as easy as it sounds. The two requirements for my list are:

  • It must be available on tape.
  • No 48K version was released.

I'm still taking nominations, but we've got 10 from back in the day plus Los Amores de Brunilda. Any more suggestions?

ooh this is tough, would be easier if a) WoS had an option to list 128k only releases (hoping someone will prove me wrong) and b) wasn't running so damn slow
are we talking only commercial releases?

  • The Addams Family
  • Where Time Stood Still
  • Bizarre (Jet Set Willy mod, just an example)

It does, do advanced search and select 128 in the RAM requirements + TZX in the format:

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseek ... format=TZX

Doesn't have to be commercial.

Bizarre (Jet Set Willy mod, just an example)

I think I'd exclude that on the basis that the original is for the 48. There are plenty of games that had more data in the 128 version, but I'm looking for stuff that was written specifically for the machine.

I considered adding Swiv and Pang, but I didn't feel I knew them well enough. I've also had a suggestion from Facebookland to add The Muncher.

Got you, when I used the 128 parameter I didn't use in conjunction with TZX and when it did it brought up Barbarian by Palace which I was sure was originally a 48k game. Turns out the 128k version that came up was a mod and was distribution denied anyway, threw me off a bit.

I'm open to more suggestions, but since we've got 10 classics I've opened a poll to see which one people liked the most. Possibly there should be a separate top 10 for titles released after 1993. Also someone pointed out Bloodwych actually works on the 48K machine. Just a mistake in the archive classification I guess.

That was definitely on my list. But I think maybe there should be two lists, classics and new releases.

Its strange that The Addams Family is the second on the list, as it wasnt popular in Spain at all, and actually its worse than some other games there, specially in gameplay, as it has a horrible character control, and that in a platform game, kills it :(

The list is alphabetical. I'm quite happy to replace it with Brunilda as there doesn't seem to be anything else lately that's as good.

I actually meant that Addams Family was second in number of votes received :)
