Following the release of Knights & Demons DX, I've made the decision to use Boriel's ZX BASIC as the scripting tool for the ZXodus][Engine. I had originally planned to use Z88DK, but based on the number of games created with that versus the number of games created with ZX BASIC, I think the latter will be more accessible.
The engine has the following features:
- 9x9 multi-color (8x1 attrıbute) viewport
- 16 column text window (6x8 font)
- 256 multi-color (16x16 pixel) 2D tiles
- 256 multi-color (16x16 pixel) 3D dungeon tiles
- 128x128 tile world map
- 16 town maps of 32x32 tiles each
- 16 NPCs per town
- 11 character classes
- two spell systems
- melee and ranged combat
- Ultıma 4 style dialog system
- AY music player
- BEEPer sound effects
- Standalone character generator
Now the gotcha ... it won't be open source. Creating a decent cRPG is a ton of work, even if the engine is already written. So I reserve the right to choose who I license it to, as a form of quality control.
